Wonderful Wiarton

For many people heading to the Bruce Peninsula and up to Tobermory, the town of Wiarton is a great place to stop half way. It has a Foodland supermarket, a Beer Store and an LCBO (because if you’re going to the cottage, you’re going to need to stop at all three), plus an amazing waterfront promenade and park, with a playground and splashpad for the kids, a pretty marina, AND an actual groundhog named Wiarton Willie. What else could you ask for during your stopover?

Wiarton was our half-way stop off point during our drive up the peninsula. Unfortunately we were only going for a night — a bit of a long drive only for a night but say what.

Our destination was Cape Chin in Lion’s Head. This part of the peninsula is a bit rocky, but a gorgeous area of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

Perfect blue water! Gin clear! And absolutely FREEZING!!!! But still nice to get in to a big body of water and take a swim.

At night we warmed up at the campfire, roasted marshmallows, and watched the Milky Way in all of its glory. Even saw some of the meteor shower.

It was only for a night, but it was gorgeous. We’re so lucky to have so many beautiful places within a few hours’ drive.
